The Dead Milkmen were one of my favorite bands as a teen, and at long last I was able to see them live! They played a sold out show at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, and they fucking BROUGHT it. My inner teen delighted in screaming along with classic favorites such as “Nutrition,” “Punk Rock Girl,” “Bitchen Camaro,” and “Big Lizard In My Backyard.”
Seeing them play live has always been a bit of a bucket list item for me, and they played an amazing show. Tons of energy, a happy crowd of fans across several generations, and a solid mix of their older hit songs along with some newer jams protesting our current political climate.
This was my first time attending a punk show without Jordan, and there was of course a tinge of sadness when he wasn’t there to hand me his hat and glasses to jump on the pit. I really miss that guy and while he wasn’t the biggest fan of The Dead Milkmen, he would have loved that show. Fortunately, my brother (the other biggest fan of the band I know) was able to join me and we both had the best time!
