grilling

I grill now.

When my ex moved out he left three full canisters of propane, and it seemed like a good moment to teach myself how to use the grill. It’s a nicer grill – or at least it was when I bought it for Jordan’s 25th (ish) birthday. It’s still going pretty strong 15+ years later, so I do recommend splurging on the Weber if you’re in the market.

I started out with cheaper things. Trader Joe’s tri-tips, pollo asada from the Mexican market, etc. But now I feel confident enough to make myself the occasional rib eye and cook it just the way I like it (on the rare side of medium-rare).

I’ve been grilling for others too – hosting taco nights again, and cooking up steak for single girlfriends who haven’t made their own foray into the masculine art of grilling red meat.

It’s been really nice to not only go back to cooking for myself and friends, but to add to my repertoire. After a few years of being too overwhelmed with grief and life to take the best care of myself, it’s deeply fulfilling to be returning to sharing my table and my cooking with those I love. And to just know that I can do this by myself, for myself.
